The board is comprised of licensed educators, writers, entrepreneurs, community volunteers, publishers and reading specialists who dedicate their lives to the development of children and adolescents. Our shared philosophy reflects an urgency to reach the very youngest children in at-risk environments in order to instill in them a belief in their own abilities and a belief that opportunities are available for them to pursue their dreams.
Executive Director Lynn Garthwaite is a graduate of Carleton College and a former employee of Bloomington Schools. She is the published author of a series of children's chapter books, a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers, and a board member of the Bloomington Literary Council. She is a speaker on the topic of writing and a retired police reserve officer.
Tai Goodwin is a former AmeriCorps member and 5th grade teacher turned entrepreneur. She has a B.S. (Drexel University) and M.S. (Capella University) in education and has served in schools in Philadelphia, PA and Baltimore, MD. A life-long intrinsic learner and book lover, she is passionate about the power of reading. "The right book, read at the right time can spark a powerful transformation." A coach, speaker, and author, Tai is the founder of Brilliant Business Girlfriends and the Chief Brilliance Catalyst at Bankable Brilliance.
Krista Kaput is a Policy and Research Associate at Education Evolving, Director at Augsburg Fairview Academy, Education Policy Fellow with Institution for Educational Leadership, and former Chicago Public School teacher.
CFO.Entrepreneur, CPA performing controller oversight for various small businesses for the last 10 years following 14+ years as controller in industry and 7+ years in public accounting. Served as a volunteer board member on several nonprofit organizations in the capacity of CFO\Treasurer since 2008.
After twenty years as an executive in the lender services industry, Jude Wiesner has the time to pursue her interest in the written word. She is the author of two short stories and has memoirs published in theMidwest Book Award winning St. Paul Almanac and is writing her second literary novel.
She has been a volunteer for the Crisis Nursery, is a member of the Loft Literary Center Midwest Fiction Writers and other writing groups. She is currently working on her second literary novel. She started as a volunteer for Books on Wings to pour her energy into introducing children at risk to the magic world of books.
