The board is comprised of licensed educators, writers, entrepreneurs, community volunteers, publishers and reading specialists who dedicate their lives to the development of children and adolescents. Our shared philosophy reflects an urgency to reach the very youngest children in at-risk environments in order to instill in them a belief in their own abilities and a belief that opportunities are available for them to pursue their dreams.
Lynn Garthwaite is a graduate of Carleton College and a former employee of Bloomington Schools. She is the published author of a series of children's chapter books, a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers, and a board member of the Bloomington Literary Council. She is a speaker on the topic of writing and a retired police reserve officer.
Mina Price is currently the marketing manager at Homeworks For Students, a private in-home tutoring company. Mina has extensive experience working with underserved students in the Twin Cities with previous experience as a TRIO/Upward Bound adviser and a policy adviser for students in Washington, D.C. at Democrats for Education Reform. Mina has a bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Benedict and a master’s degree from St. Catherine University.
Josh Pauly is the executive director of Books on Wings. He is also the founder of PeopleSourced Policy, a nonpartisan, nonprofit civic engagement organization whose mission is to increase access and community engagement in the local political process. Previously Josh taught social studies and AVID for three years within Minneapolis Public Schools. Josh has a bachelor's degree and a master's in education from the University of Minnesota.
Josh Abel is the secretary of Books on Wings. He currently works for a software company in the advertising/marketing technology space. Josh has previously worked with non-profits including the United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and an organization based in India focused on basic life skills training for children. Josh has a BA in Diplomacy & Foreign Affairs from Miami University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
After twenty years as an executive in the lender services industry, Jude Wiesner has the time to pursue her interest in the written word. She is the author of two short stories and has memoirs published in theMidwest Book Award winning St. Paul Almanac and is writing her second literary novel.
She has been a volunteer for the Crisis Nursery, is a member of the Loft Literary Center Midwest Fiction Writers and other writing groups. She is currently working on her second literary novel. She started as a volunteer for Books on Wings to pour her energy into introducing children at risk to the magic world of books.
